| I have a new amp. It's a Fender Deluxe Reverb. It just might be the best amp in the world. Pictured here with my well-beloved Gibson Les Paul Vintage Mahogany, which in most lights is more red and less orange.
...But that's not all! Last week I went and picked me up a Reverend Jetstream! Which, in most lights is a bit less sparkly than the flash made it seem. But definitely metallic, and definitely very retro. I dig.
Now that you all realize I have a money tree in my back yard, I am, in fact, going to have to kill you. Not really, but there is a story behind these musical acquisitions. The Amp: I was having problems with my amp, a Blues Junior, which would have been a pretty sweet amp, except for the problems. Rattling vacuum tubes, to be precise. After suggesting several solutions, none of which worked, the good folks at Long & McQuade suggested that I trade it in for a slightly more powerful amplifier. With full refund. After having the amp for almost two years. Now that is service. I then chanced upon the black beauty you see above, used, for the same price the Blues Jr cost new. And after demoing it (loudly) in-store, I realized that this amp was exactly what I had been looking for all along... The Guitar: I have been interested in this guitar ever since I stumbled upon the Reverend Guitars website. It has a very interesting feature set. Recently, the company stopped making this guitar with the nice Wilkinson whammy bar bridge, which was one of the features I found interesting, and I was disappointed. Then I stumbled upon a used Jetstream, which had the whammy I wanted, but not the finish I wanted. I liked the sunburst (note the different bridge). But I figured oh well, I was looking at sparkly guitars before, and this one was less sparkly and more just metallic. Besides, sunburst is so overdone! So I went to Cambridge and tried it out. Then I brought it home... As for the Les Paul, she's so beautiful she deserves her own blog entry.
I am, without a doubt, a tone fiend. But unlike so many others, my quest is nearly done. All I need is a Tubescreamer. And a wah. And maybe a compressor. And definitely, some day, a Gibson ES-335. Oh, and a Telecaster, of course... Did I say nearly done? My bad. Cheers |
